Gordmans on employment verifications and missing I-9s
Gordmans spoke at a webinar recently about how it has been managing increasing numbers of employment verification requests with The Work Number and helping maintain Form I-9 compliance at the same time.
Anita Morse, Benefits Coordinator at national retailer Gordmans, and an integral part of HR compliance at the company, talked about the many difference sources of requests for employment verifications. That includes the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, or CMS – a recent new source of such requests.
She shared data on verification request volumes showing that Gordmans is on pace to reach a level nearly double what the company saw two years ago. (See webinar slide.)
It appears that Gordmans is not alone: in a live poll presented to the over 250 attendees, 8% of respondents said verification volumes had more than doubled and 35% said they had “gone up significantly.”
The good news: since Gordmans has automated their responses to these requests with The Work Number this hasn’t resulted in more work for the HR team.
Anita also talked about how combining The Work Number with the Equifax I-9 Management service creates an additional tool to help maintain I-9 compliance. That’s because the combined services allows Gordmans to locate missing I-9s.
“The Work Number and the I-9 service uncovers any missing I-9s we have, it helps us stay in compliance. We can’t imagine not having both of them,” Anita said.
