Government shutdown will stop E-Verify
As you know, Congress is trying to work through budget issues and provide funding for the federal government to continue operating. In the event of a government shutdown that causes E-Verify® to become unavailable, employers must continue to complete Forms I-9 in compliance with the law and create cases in E-Verify when E-Verify becomes available. Employers using Equifax I-9 Management need not worry as cases for eligible Forms I-9 are already queued when E-Verify is down and submitted when E-Verify is back up. This is the exact same process that is used today because E-Verify goes down every night and is down on selected weekends for maintenance.
Employers using E-Verify Employer Agents (formerly Designated Agents) should contact the supplier to make sure that no E-Verify cases will be lost if E-Verify is down.
Hopefully, a government shutdown will be avoided and E-Verify will continue to process normally. Just thought you all should know in advance so you can plan appropriately.
