Webinar: A Better Path to Completing I-9s
Enforcement on the Rise; Learn How to Help Prevent a Costly Surprise
I-9 enforcement has increased significantly over the summer. For example, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has carried out several worksite enforcement actions, including more than 3,000 reported notices of inspections delivered to businesses across the country. And ICE has promised that number will increase.
During a media teleconference, ICE Acting Director Mathew Albence stated, “When we perform these worksite surges, our primary goal is to pursue criminal prosecution against those businesses, who frankly their business model is based upon illegal employment. We are going after those individuals that are here illegally and working unlawfully as well.”
Federal worksite enforcement efforts surged in 2018 with a nearly 340% increase in I-9 audits compared to the previous year. The trend will seemingly continue throughout 2019 and well into 2020.
Take Action to Help Prepare for an ICE I-9 Audit
Knowing the stats and understanding the potential risks are certainly not enough to keep you safe from potential liability. Let’s face it – no one wants to be held accountable for fines and penalties incurred from a failed I-9 audit.
If demanding timelines and ever-changing guidelines for employment eligibility leave you feeling overwhelmed, then it’s time to take preemptive measures. Help stay on top of requirements and discover best practices for onsite and offsite I-9s.
