Nebraska Becomes Fifth State to Join E-Verify Ride Program
As of February 1, 2015, Nebraska joined Mississippi, Iowa, Idaho, and Florida as states participating in the E-Verify RIDE program. RIDE stands for Records and Information from DMVs for E-Verify, and involves validation of state driver’s licenses and identification cards that have been presented as documentation for the I-9 process. The idea is to help diminish document fraud and increase the overall accuracy of the E-Verify program.
According to US Citizenship and Immigration Services, USCIS, driver’s license and ID cards account for nearly 80 percent of documents used as proof of identity for E-Verify purposes. By participating in RIDE, state DMVs are providing an added layer of verification through validation of the information provided on these selected documents. When a new employee presents one of these documents the employer is asked to enter information into E-Verify. Further details and a fact sheet for each participating state can be found at:
