New EAD: Single-Card Employment and Travel Authorization for Form I-485 Applicants

On February 7, 2011, USCIS began issuing an
Employment Authorization Document (Form I-766) to certain employment-authorized aliens
that includes a new notation: “Serves as I-512 Advance Parole.” The
new card, with this endorsement, will serve as both employment authorization and
a travel document. An employment authorization document (EAD) with the new notation
is an acceptable EAD under List A for Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification.
This card is only available to individuals who have a pending Application to Register
Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, Form I-485. The new card is generally valid

According to E-Verify, as stated during the
February American Payroll Association GATF Immigration Subcommittee meeting, for Form
I-9 purposes the new duel use EAD (Form I-766) is treated as a List A document, which
is how the EAD is currently specified on Form I-9.
