Tax Extender Package Update
is going to give another run at a new version of the tax extender package.
The Senate returned back on Monday, September 13, 2010, from summer recess with exciting
news regarding the tax extender package. The
“extender” bill would renew for one year dozens of provisions, including the research
and development credit, which President Obama proposed to make permanent. The measures
in the bill are expected to cost $30 billion over 10 years. The
Senate may try to present the extender bill, with other provisions important to
businesses, as an option for enactment before the November elections. A

Majority Leader Reid said
floor time was possible but that it “would require Republican cooperation.” The
Senate Democrats need the support of at least one Republican to pass the extender
bill, but this may once again be difficult since the Republicans are still very concerned about
