E-Book for Employers: Tax-Related Identity Theft Prevention Guide
As we live in an increasingly connected world, protecting personal information can become a tough task, even for the most tech-savvy people. Identity thieves are actively looking for consumer’s personal and financial data, and they know a myriad of ways and loopholes to capture it. Fraudsters are becoming more advanced and going further than sending fraudulent emails and calling people to commit tax-related identity theft. These thieves are impersonating and targeting tax preparers, payroll professionals, company executives, and even human resources personnel to persuade individuals into offering up their personal information and the information of their employees, clients, and colleagues.
In the rush for everyone to file taxes before the April 17th deadline, it’s a good reminder to stay alert and careful with guarding personal information against lurkers. Although tax-related identity theft isn’t 100 percent avoidable, there are many actions employers and employees can take to help keep personal information out of the wrong hands.
